IMETU, was founded in 1980, and it had been a research division of electronic Engineering Department originally since 1956. 853 undergraduate students and 12 graduate students majoring in semiconductor graduated before founding IMETU, 902 undergraduate students and 236 graduate students and 56 Ph. D candidates graduated from IMETU. Among alumni of IMETU, there are tow members of the Chinese Academy of Science, they are Wu Dexin (Center of Microelectronics, Chinese Academy of Science) and Zheng Houzhi (Institute of Semiconductor Chinese Academy of Science).
